Hendersonville Dentist Talks Snow
It’s January 16, 2018 and we are getting pounded with another round of snow. Last Friday we had to close the practice due to icy and snow conditions. Today we are getting another round of just snow thankfully. Most of our patients yesterday called to cancel or reschedule their appointments due to the threat of the weather.
When it snows do you brave it and get out in the weather or do you stay inside where it’s warm. I know most of my staff is from other parts other than Hendersonville, so we all like to see who has the most snow in their area. Those that live in the Cottontown or Portland area usually always beat everyone else.
Our Office Is Open
Our office will be open today, so if you do have a dental appointment with us as of right now we are going to be open. Please call before you brave the weather to ensure that we are still open. Please keep an eye on our Facebook or Instagram to make sure we aren’t closing early or any other issues that may arise.
Enjoy your snow day if you are staying in, and be safe if you are driving into work today.
Once In A Lifetime Experience.
Today was the Solar Eclipse, where were you viewing the Solar Eclipse? We had planned on having a Solar Eclipse party at our office, but most of our appointments ended up falling a part so most of our staff ended up leaving early to go back to their neck of the woods to view the Solar Eclipse. The last time the U.S. saw a total eclipse was in 1979. How neat was it though that we were in the path of totality?
Where Did You Watch The Eclipse?
So we want to know where you were when you were watching the eclipse. Were you at work with your co-workers, at home with your family, with friends, or did you simply just watch it on TV to play it safe? We were excited to experience this once in a lifetime sighting and we hope you were too. Let us know below what you thought of the Solar Eclipse.

Allow Us to Make Your Dental Visit Painless
A dental office is sometimes can be painful and scary place. Hendersonville Family Dentistry wants to discourage that image with a family, friendly staff and qualified dentists. However, endodontic therapy, a dental procedure commonly known as root canal, still carries a strong association with pain that sometimes keeps people from regularly visiting the dentist and tending optimally to their oral health.
When a tooth becomes badly infected or decayed, a qualified dentist can clean the inside of the tooth by removing the bacteria, soft tissue ( called pulp), decayed nerve tissue, and any debris that may be causing the tooth infection from the inside of the tooth. Dr. Harbin or Dr. Jones will then seal the tooth to prevent further decay and finish by applying a crown or filling. This is the process and purpose of a root canal. This process can be completed, typically, in a few visits to Hendersonville Family Dentistry. In many cases, a root canal procedure is a better option than removing the infected tooth since it allows you to keep your natural tooth.
Looking For A Dental Home?
Root canals are often not painful, and for many people the pain of the infection experienced beforehand is worse than any pain that might be experienced during the procedure.
If you are looking for a trusted and experienced dentist in Hendersonville, TN we invite you to give Hendersonville Family Dentistry a call at 615-822-8262 to schedule a consultation.
Many patients are under the impression that the harder brushing leads to cleaner teeth, but that’s not true. Gentle brushing is just as effective, and less likely to cause damage. Other good brushing habits include brushing your teeth at least twice a day, replacing your toothbrush after a few months, and brushing for at least two minutes each time. It can be tough to keep track of the time when you are aiming for two minutes but these tips can help.
Two Minutes Twice A Day
- Set a timer: Setting a timer is a sure-fire way to hit your two-minute goal on the dot. Leave a kitchen timer in your bathroom so that it is easy to set each time you start brushing your teeth. Hit each surface of all of your top and bottom teeth, and keep brushing until the timer rings. Many electric toothbrushes have a built in timer that you can use instead of a kitchen timer.
- Entertaining Yourself for Two Minutes: Time flies when you are having fun, and you can stay entertained as you brush your teeth for two minutes here are some idea’s.
Time your favorite song and sing it in your head as you brush your teeth.
Find a two minute video on the internet that you want to watch, and start it when you begin to brush your teeth.
Do squats in the bathroom as you brush. By the time you get to 20 squats, your two minutes should be over IF you do them slowly.
- Allow Children to use technology: Toothsavors is an app designed to inspire children to brush. A game to fight an evil sorceress who causes cavities. A real life reminder to brush two a day. A built in timer that helps kids brush for two minutes.
Gum Disease Is An Infection.
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It’s a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it. Also referred to as periodontal disease, gum disease is caused by plaque, the sticky film of bacteria that is constantly forming on our teeth.
Warning Signs That Can Signal A Problem
- gums that bleed
- red, swollen, tender gums
- gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- persistent bad breath or bad taste
- persistent teeth that are loose or separating
- any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
- any change in the fit of partial dentures
Please see our team at Hendersonville Family Dentistry if you suspect you have gum disease because the sooner you treat it the better. The early stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. If you have gingivitis, your gums may become red, swollen and bleed easily.

What are some things you are looking forward to doing this fall with your friends & family? For me personally I love going to all of the local farms to gather apples, and pumpkins, not to mention going to those frightening haunted houses.
