Happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love and spend quality hours with the people you care about the most. Whether you’re in a relationship or single, take some time today to appreciate those you love in your life.
Idea’s To Celebrate Valentines Day This Year
- Enjoy a tasty treat. There are plenty of options when it comes to cooking and/or baking on Valentine’s Day. Make your significant other his or her favorite meal or sweet treat, or make your own favorite dish to enjoy on this day. Oh, and be sure to make enough for leftovers!
- Make a personalized card. Instead of buying a card from the grocery store, take the time to make your own for a loved one. People love handwritten notes, especially when it’s from someone special. If you’re single this Valentine’s Day, make a card for fellow single friend to brighten the day and remind the person that he or she is also loved.
- Watch a movie. We all know there are plenty of romance movies out there. Put on your favorite romantic comedy, or pick up your significant other’s favorite movie to watch together. Even better, if you’re single, pick up your own favorite movies to watch to pass the time this Valentine’s Day.
- Do nothing! We all know Valentine’s Day can sometimes get a lot of hype. If you’re worried about not making a reservation in time, don’t feel like planning an extravagant night out, or simply not in the holiday mood this year, spend your day sitting back and relaxing.
From Hendersonville Family Dentistry, we wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!
Be Prepared For A Dental Emergency.
Dental emergencies are bound to come up when you have young children. Dr. Harbin and our team at Hendersonville Family Dentistry want you to be prepared in case you run into a difficult situation. Problems may vary, from minor gum irritation to knock-out-teeth. Take a look at the different possibilites and how you can handle them.
Dental Emergency Vs. Not Dental Emergency.
Teething pain is as normal as your child’s first set of teeth falling out. On the other hand, if a baby tooth is knocked out in a forceful accident, make sure you bring him or her into Hendersonville Family Dentistry to check that other damage hasn’t occurred in the mouth. On occasion, permanent teeth may grow in before baby teeth have fallen out. This may not cause any discomfort, but Dr. Harbin and Dr. Jones should make sure the teeth are growing in properly. Catching teeth that are coming in incorrectly can prevent issues from arising into adult hood.
If your child is suffering from bleeding gums, rinse your child’s mouth with warm salt water and apply light pressure to the area. If you become concerned about the amount of blood, contact our office and we will schedule an appointment for your little one as soon as possible.
Don’t forget as a parent you provide the best education to your children on the importance of proper oral hygiene by setting a good example.

Chipped Your Tooth?
When you chip a tooth badly, it can be a very nerve-wracking situation. Dr. Jones and our team want to provide you with some information that can help if you ever supper a chipped or broken tooth. The most common ways people break their teeth are by biting down on something hard, getting hit in the mouth, falling down, or developing cavities that weaken the tooth and allow it to be broken easily. There are a few things that you can do if you find yourself in this situation.
Investigate The Tooth
We recommend that you investigate whether the tooth is partially chipped or completely broken. Unless you are experiencing a lot of pain or bleeding, this should not be treated as an emergency.
If your teeth show severe damage such as a serious break, split tooth, split root or decay-induced break, Dr. Harbin & Dr. Jones may need to take more time to fix the problem. If you need emergency dental care because a tooth has fallen out, call our practice immediately to schedule an appointment for that day. If you are waiting for an emergency appointment, you can rinse your mouth with warm salt water and apply slight pressure to the area to stop the bleeding. We recommend using an ice pack to reduce the swelling, but don’t take any aspirin because that may increase the bleeding.
If your tooth has completely fallen out of the socket, hold it by the crown and rinse it under running water. Don’t let the tooth become dry, instead place it in salt water or milk until you get to our office. We will then determine if the tooth can be salvaged or will need to be completely replaced.
When dealing with emergencies be sure to schedule an appointment at Hendersonville Family Dentistry as soon as an emergency situation occurs.
Happy Thanksgiving from Hendersonville Dentist
Thanksgiving is this week, I can already taste the delicious food already! While I am excited about the holiday food, and the time spent with my family I can overhear my staff telling each other the Black Friday deals that they plan on taking advantage of. Are you a Black Friday shopper? I use to be, until I went shopping at the mall in Nashville and a fight broke out. I think I will stay in this year, and look for the Cyber Monday deals. Less people to deal with, and it comes right to my door.
So we have to ask you, how will you be spending Thanksgiving? Will you be running to different family homes to enjoy more than one meal? Will you be sitting with your family as you par take in the wonderful Thanksgiving food and getting a plan of when and where you will be starting your Black Friday shopping? Are you starting Thursday night on some of those Black Friday deals or will you be getting up early in the morning to get out and beat the crowd for a limited number of items on sale?
Either way we hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday with your friends & family!

Once In A Lifetime Experience.
Today was the Solar Eclipse, where were you viewing the Solar Eclipse? We had planned on having a Solar Eclipse party at our office, but most of our appointments ended up falling a part so most of our staff ended up leaving early to go back to their neck of the woods to view the Solar Eclipse. The last time the U.S. saw a total eclipse was in 1979. How neat was it though that we were in the path of totality?
Where Did You Watch The Eclipse?
So we want to know where you were when you were watching the eclipse. Were you at work with your co-workers, at home with your family, with friends, or did you simply just watch it on TV to play it safe? We were excited to experience this once in a lifetime sighting and we hope you were too. Let us know below what you thought of the Solar Eclipse.

When Was The Last Time You Visited Us?
Come say hello twice a year, multiple visits a year lets us keep an eye out for any developing issues. It’s important to remember that this goes for the whole family, children over one year old should be seeing Dr. Harbin and Dr. Jones.
Stay fresh at Hendersonville Family Dentistry, we have a virtually unlimited stock of toothbrushes and floss which means you have no excuse to be using a sad ineffective toothbrush. As soon as bristles begin to fray, pick up a new one or stop by our office in Hendersonville, TN and we’ll replace yours. On average you should be opening a new one every two to three months.
Brush & Floss For Goodness Sake!
Flossing is an efficient way to keep your whole mouth healthy. It not only protects your teeth by removing aggregated plaque, it keeps your gums happy too. Practicing regular healthy habits is essential to keeping your mouth and us happy. When it comes to brushing that means two minutes, two times a day. If your kids need some encouragement, try making a calendar or playing a song.
One way you can help us is spreading the love. Tell your friends about what a good thing we’ve got going here.
Diet Plays A Major Role
The food you feed your child can have a lasting effect on his or her oral health. In fact diet plays a major role in whether a child develops cavities and decay, which can lead to many dental visits and potential tooth loss. So what should you feed your child to ensure he or she has a healthy smile for life.
Foods & Beverages To Avoid
Healthy foods can present the threat of decay too. Some of the most common culprits are sticky foods like peanut butter, raisins, and granola bars, which can stick to the teeth after eating. If you serve these foods to your child, be sure to have him or her brush immediately after eating to remove any lingering sugary residue.
Make an effort to serve only water to your child any time other than meal times. During meals, allow your child to have milk or juice, but in limited serving sizes. Most importantly, never allow your young child to sleep with a bottle or “sippie cup” full of juice or milk. Doing so can cause rapid tooth decay, a condition known as bottle caries.
As long as your child is brushing regularly and eating a healthy, balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains you should have little or no problem with tooth decay.
