Happy Halloween To Our Patients

It’s finally here the day your kids have looked forward to ever since it turned October 1, 2016. That’s right, today is Halloween, where ghost, goblins, and Elsa will soon be crowding your street and saying “trick or treat”. Most parent’s and even teacher’s dread Halloween for one reason, all the candy! How is it on one night your kids will rack up enough candy to last an entire year and of course they want to sit and eat everything as soon as they get home.

Trick Or Treat Smell My Feet!

To avoid any melt downs this Halloween season we have a few tips for you and your little one’s.

Allow your child to look through all of his or her candy, no need to immediately take it away. Sort through it and see what your child even likes or doesn’t like, and make sure you know which candies you want your child to have and which ones you would rather seen thrown away.

Encourage your child to eat a few pieces of candy, but discourage having to eat all of his or her candy within a couple of days. What works at my house is we have a designated time we can enjoy one of our Halloween treats each day. This way I can serve something healthy and a sweet treat along with it so they are at least following up with a healthy snack after indulging in a unhealthy little candy bar, or sucker.

We freeze some of the chocolates at our house, and grab them back out throughout the year for them to enjoy. Stay away from the sticky candies that will stick to your child’s teeth.

While letting your child enjoy his or her candy, also explain that brushing and flossing properly is important after eating candy throughout the day. This a great time to teach your child the proper way to care for their teeth especially after eating more than usual candy consumption.

Come into our office today to see our staff dressed up for the holiday, say “trick or treat” and get a free toothbrush!
